Course Description

Swim

The swimming pool is a 5 lane 25m pool.

Competitors will set off at different times in age categories except the novices who will set off together irrespective of age.

If you get into difficulty during the swim you can gain assistance by grabbing the wall or the lane rope.

A maximum of four swimmers will be in each lane at any one time; there are five lanes in the pool. Competitors will be started together and after the first length will swim in a chain. This allows competitors to race head to head and makes timing easier. You will be told which direction to swim in by the swim marshal. You will be provided with a coloured swim cap. Please wear this so you can easily be identified by a marshal. Drop the cap in front of the swim marshal when you exit the water.

The swim marshals will be counting your lengths but competitors are responsible for completing the correct number so please make sure you know how many lengths you have to swim.

When you have completed your swim, climb out of the pool and put on your trainers and race T shirt/vest at the end of the pool. Leave through the doors at the top of the pool and follow the directions for the run course Please shout out your number as you leave the pool area.

Bike

The bike will take place on the playing fields behind the sports centre.

You MUST put on your helmet first, then pick up your bike and run/walk with it to the transition area exit point. DO NOT CYCLE IN THE TRANSITION AREA. You will NOT be allowed to leave the transition area until your helmet is on and securely fastened.

Mount your bike at the mount line, making sure your number is clearly displayed. If your number is not clearly displayed, you may receive a penalty.

There will be marshals counting laps but it is your responsibility to ensure you complete the correct number. (Age groups and the corresponding laps they must complete are included in these notes). Shout your number as you complete each lap when you pass the marshals. Remember to check if it is safe to overtake by looking behind first.

When you have completed your final bike lap, you must dismount before the dismount point. Do not cycle past this point or you will receive a penalty. Give your bike to a marshal before unfastening and removing your helmet.

You may then start the run section.

Run

The run will also take place on the playing fields and will follow an anti-clockwise direction all on grass.

Drop outs

If you have to drop out of your race for any reason, please tell a race official immediately.
